History of Chimney Sweeping
A new film follows the story of child chimney sweep George Brewster.
The Last Climbing Boy
This new film follows the story of child chimney sweep George Brewster. George died on the 11th of February 1875 whilst cleaning a chimney at the old Cambridge Lunatic Asylum, next to the current Fulbourn Hospital.

George’s death caused a national outrage and was the catalyst for great and social and political change.
Exactly 150 years to the day, guests gathered to see the current Earl of Shaftsbury unveil a Blue Plaque in George’s honour.
The award by Cambridge Past Present & Future marks a six-year journey by local historian Joanna Hudson.
The Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps are very impressed by everyone involved and the great time spent uncovering George’s story and the journey to the Blue Plaque.
We commissioned this film as a thank you on behalf of the chimney sweeping industry and as an historical record for all to share.
